How to Find the Right Real Estate Agent for You

As one of the biggest financial decisions of your life, buying or selling a home is no small feat. Finding a real estate agent with the experience to guide you through the process is a must.

From seeing them in your social feed to passing them on bus stop benches or simply phoning the fresh For Sale sign your neighbor posted, there’s no shortage of real estate agents vying to work with you. Finding the perfect fit can feel a bit overwhelming, but follow these tips, and you’ll know how to hire the perfect pro.

Are They Full-time or Part-time?

You want a full-time real estate agent working for you. If you think finding a house can be frustrating, wait until your part-time agent can’t get back to you to answer questions, schedule a showing, or submit your offer until they finish their day job.

Do They Have a Marketing Strategy?

Ask to see their current and past MLS listings. This helps you evaluate how they’re going to market your home. Do their past listings have virtual tours, are the photos taken by a professional photographer, and what value of homes do they typically sell?

Will They Provide You With References?

While many home buyers and sellers ask for references, they never actually follow up. Don’t be those people. You’ll be surprised by just how honest some people are. Remember to ask how they were introduced to the real estate agent. Does the agent only sell for friends and family, or are they as busy as they say they are?

What You Need to Know

Although referrals are a great way to do business, don’t just take the first name you come across. Search for an expert whose standards will match your investments.
